Joshua Kimmich has reportedly seen his contract offer from Bayern Munich withdrawn ahead of a potential departure this summer.

The versatile midfielder's current deal runs until the end of the season, so this latest update on his future could turn heads in the Premier League with a number of top clubs said to be keen.

Kimmich is regarded as one of the world's best players in his position having won eight Bundesliga titles with Bayern since joining in 2015.

He has made 426 appearances for the Bavarian giants and also earned 97 caps with the German national team, where he is captain, but could soon become a free agent.

According to German outlet BILD, Bayern informed Kimmich earlier in the week that their new contract offer for him has been withdrawn.

Negotiations are said to have been ongoing for months but officials at the club are unsure as to why the 30-year-old has hesitated to sign.

Bayern wanted to save money on his salary, which currently stands at an estimated €20million [£16.5million] for the former RB Leipzig man.

Whilst the offer has been retracted by the Bundesliga giants, there is still a possibility that Kimmich could extend his stay.

The club and player remain in talks, but there are doubts about the possibility of the withdrawn contract's conditions returning.

Should Kimmich's future continue to hang in the balance, then two of the Premier League's biggest clubs could express an interest.

talkSPORT reported in January 2024 that Liverpool and Manchester City have monitored his contract situation at Bayern.

Liverpool already have an abundance of midfield talent including Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

City re-signed Ilkay Gundogan last summer and welcomed Nico Gonzalez last month whilst Rodri recovers from his ACL injury.

However, Kimmich offers more than just quality in the midfield as he also has the ability to play as a right-back.

He has featured in the role for both club and country when needed, so his versatility would make him an even more attractive option.

Liverpool, in particular, could entertain a move amid the increasing prospect of Trent Alexander-Arnold joining Real Madrid this summer.

City, on the other hand, have seen their stalwart right-back Kyle Walker join AC Milan on loan until the end of the season.

His contract also expires at the end of the season, with Milan having the option to make his move permanent.

Liverpool and Man City haven't been battling it out for the title this season, with the Reds currently 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table and 20 clear of Pep Guardiola's men.

But it appears the rival clubs could be set to compete for Kimmich's signature when the transfer window re-opens in June.
