Some interesting comments from this BBC Sport pundit on Newcastle United.
Chris Sutton speaking ahead of this afternoon’s game at St James’ Park.
Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United players looking to get the season off to the best possible start.
Promoted Southampton making their longest trip of this Premier League season and no doubt plenty of them making a weekend of it.
Chris Sutton talking to BBC Sport – 17 August 2024:
“Tough game for one of the promoted sides.
“Newcastle have got some quality players and they are also such a powerful, physical and relentless outfit.
“Southampton will know what is coming, but I am not sure they will be able to stop it happening.
“Prediction: Newcastle 3 Southampton”
Difficult to disagree with any of that from Chris Sutton.
As the BBC Sport pundit makes clear, Southampton will know exactly what is coming this afternoon.
However, can they deal with it, survive it?
Eddie Howe sure to be getting his team doing a high press from the first whistle and it will be a major shock if Newcastle United aren’t the dominant team. Which then becomes can NUFC create the chances AND take them, whilst not going to sleep themselves when Southampton break?
Whilst a number of players are not going to be available, Eddie Howe is set have the likes of Isak, Barnes, Murphy, Bruno, Joelinton, Longstaff, Osula and Willock, either as starters of on the bench, no reason why the goals can’t flow.
