ATLANTA — A pair of familiar faces have joined Canada this week as they prepare to compete in the 2024 SheBelieves Cup tournament. Janine Beckie and Desiree Scott are both back with the national team following yearlong absences due to injury.

After 518 days on the sidelines following a torn meniscus and several ups and downs during her rehab process, Scott made her NWSL return on March 31 with the KC Current. Beckie’s recovery from a torn ACL came with a triumphant return when she scored two goals for the Portland Thorns in a 5–4 loss to Kansas City on March 16.

Together, both players have leaned on each other during their lengthy absences.

“It’s nice to have someone that’s been on a similar journey,” Beckie spoke to The Equalizer exclusively following training on Friday. “It’s always nice to have someone to relate to that kind of knows what you’ve gone through and how difficult it is to come back from a major injury. It’s nice that I have her here with me. It’s been a good week.”
