WWE Superstar Becky Lynch is known for fighting for what she believes in, both inside and outside the ring. Recently, the former RAW Women’s Champion opened up about the original—and bizarre—creative plans for her memorable pregnancy announcement on Monday Night Raw in 2020.
In a recent interview with Vulture, Lynch reflected on the segment where she revealed her pregnancy and vacated the RAW Women’s Title, naming Asuka—fresh off her Money in the Bank victory—the new champion. While the moment remains iconic, Lynch shared that the original creative pitch was wildly different and, in her words, “very bad.”
“The whole thing was supposed to go down in this crazy way,” Lynch explained. “They wanted me coming out and challenging the backstage interviewer. Then Asuka would come out, and I would say all these just elaborate, robust words. It was bad. It was just very bad.”
Lynch, who was in the early stages of her pregnancy at the time, didn’t hold back her feelings about the pitch. “I was also very hormonal. I was ready to punch somebody,” she joked. “You got to know what hills to die on. When you’re early weeks of pregnancy, you don’t know those hills. You’ll die on all of them. I was ready to fight, and I fought. It was better than it was otherwise intended.”
Her decision to push back against the creative team ultimately resulted in a more heartfelt and genuine moment, resonating with fans around the world. Lynch’s emotional segment announcing her pregnancy remains one of the most talked-about moments in WWE history.
