Ben Chilwell is set to move to Crystal Palace on loan until the end of the season after the Eagles agreed a deal with Chelsea.
The England international will move across London on transfer deadline day, as long as he passes a medical at Selhurst Park, reports The Telegraph.
The 28-year-old has not made a single Premier League appearance this season after being reduced to a member of Chelsea’s notorious ‘bomb squad’ under Enzo Maresca.
A string of first team players were largely ostracised from Maresca’s first team plans at the start of the season, with Chilwell being one of the more senior of those stars.
Since then the left-back has made just one Carabao Cup appearance against Barrow, left out of contention at Stamford Bridge.
An exit at the end of the summer transfer window could not be found, but it appears that Chilwell will now get his move.
However, given his long and torrid history with injuries, it is not a certainty that the former Leicester man will pass his Eagles medical, so all parties will await confirmation on Monday.
Despite not even picking him on the substitutes’ bench in the Premier League this season, Maresca has spoken in glowing terms of Chilwell’s professionalism during a difficult time.
‘Ben has been top. I have to say that, he has been top,’ said Maresca in January. ‘Very professional, works hard.
‘I feel shame because of that situation but in terms of behaviour, he has been very good.’
Also moving away from Stamford Bridge on loan for the rest of the season is Carney Chukwuemeka who is joining Borussia Dortmund on a short-term deal.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that there is an option to buy in the deal, but it is worth more than the £40m release clause in his current contract.
The 21-year-old has been involved more than Chilwell this season, making four appearances in the Europa Conference League, but also hasn’t turned out in the Premier League.
He too will have a medical on Monday and is due to complete a move before the transfer deadline.
