Arriving this summer in Lorient to return to service after several months of inactivity linked to his trial, Benjamin Mendy could already leave.

In the midst of fighting to maintain its place in Ligue 1 next season, FC Lorient has decided to do everything possible to move up the rankings. Red lantern of the championship before playing the nineteenth day, the Breton club spoke through its president, Loïc Féry. In comments relayed on Sunday by The Telegramthe Lorient president announced the departure of certain players whom he considers to no longer be in line with the club’s project.

It is therefore very likely by the end of the current winter transfer window that “ star players who did not play collectively » will be asked to leave. And Loïc Ferry would have added: “ Some have forgotten that football is a team sport. » Obviously, the media immediately sought to identify these mysterious elements. RMC cited three possible names: Benjamin Mendy, Tiémoué Bakayoko and Romain Faivre. The three men were not selected for Sunday’s match against Le Havre.

Already on the move?

An explanation for Bakayoko, who is suspended for an accumulation of boxes. Another for Mendy who is injured in his thigh. As for Faivre, he was announced absent at the last minute, due to hamstring discomfort. So, who did Loïc Féry really target? If it is Benjamin Mendy, the latter could therefore leave a club which welcomed him last summer after more than two years without playing.

Accused of several rapes and sexual assault, the former Manchester City man was ultimately found not guilty of the charges against him. Since wearing the colors of Lorient, Mendy has only taken part in eight Ligue 1 matches, scoring one goal. Note, however, that in reaction to the article in Telegram, Loïc Féry insisted on denying this Sunday. The manager qualified his remarks by indicating that he had placed the emphasis on the collective and that if things did not work out, then he would eventually have to part ways with certain players. We will therefore have to wait until the end of the transfer window (February 1) to know the end of the story.
