Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, on Friday admonished the new corps member deployed to the state to serve the country with unreserved loyalty and dedication.
Addressing the corps members of Batch B stream two during the opening ceremony of the orientation course exercise held at NYSC Camp, located at Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area in the State, Governor Alia reminded the corps members that they all have a great role to play in shaping the future of Nigeria.
“Therefore, you have to serve the country with unreserved loyalty and dedication”, the governor said.
Governor Alia who was represented at the occasion by the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr John Akume, urged the corps members to prioritise skills acquisition and entrepreneurship programme of the National Youth Service Corps.
He said, “I admonish you to take the program seriously as it is a door to great fortune.”
While reiterating his administration’s commitment to the security, safety and welfare of the corps members in every part of the state, Governor Alia commended the State Coordinator, Mrs Veronica Garba, and the camp officials for tutoring the corps members with the requisite leadership skills.
Earlier in her welcome speech, the state coordinator, expressed gratitude to the state governor for his unflinching love and support that the NYSC Scheme enjoyed under his leadership since his assumption of Office.
She said, “Your Excellency Sir, I want you to know that all the serving Corps Members are extremely happy with the regular payment of their monthly state allowance of Fifteen and Hundreds thousands naira and the recent approval of One Million naira to the four outstanding 2023 Batch B corps members.”
Similarly, the Governor of Kwara State and the Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum, AbdulRahman Abdulrazak, on Friday enjoined members of the National Youth Service Corps deployed to the state to be disciplined, loyal and imbibe the spirit of patriotism during their service year.
Speaking at the official Opening and Swearing-in Ceremony for the 2024 Batch B Stream 2 orientation course at the NYSC camp, Yikpata in Edu Local Government Area of the state, AbdulRazaq described the NYSC scheme as very vital to national development.
The governor, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Youth Development, Ndanusa Usman, at the occasion expressed appreciation to the federal government for its continued efforts in sustaining the NYSC scheme.
He said, “NYSC, over the years has become a veritable tool for national development and a rallying point, where the educated Nigerian youths were mobilized for the onerous task of nation building.
AbdulRazaq urged the newly inducted corps members to be disciplined, focused, loyal and imbibed the spirit of patriotism all through the service year and even beyond.
He further pledged that his government would always put corps members’ welfare on the front burner.
In another development, the National Youth Service Corps has commended the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, for embarking on massive renovation and refurbishment of the permanent NYSC orientation camp in the state.
The NYSC coordinator for the state, Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, made the commendation during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ stream II corps members at the temporary orientation camp, Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education, Kangere, Bauchi.
Recalled that the NYSC in the state on Monday announced the relocation of the state youth service camp to a temporary site for the renovation and upgrade of the permanent orientation Camp as ordered by the state governor.
The state coordinator stated, “On behalf of the Director General of NYSC Brig. Gen Y.D Ahmed, corps members, I wish to commend the governor for his unwavering commitment to the realisation of the NYSC objectives in the state.
“The ongoing renovations at the state NYSC permanent orientation camp, Wailo, and the construction of new facilities are to their commitment to the welfare of corps members and camp officials.
“It is worthy of note that the governor did not just stop at relocating the camp temporarily to this place; he went ahead to ensure that basic necessary facilities were provided and the structures were given a facelift.”
She added that the governor has constructed a new kitchen at the temporary camp, painted all the hostels for both camp officials and corps members as well and provided the canopies for ceremonies and other major activities.
