Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has described the outcome of the local government election held on Saturday as a true reflection of the people’s will.
The governor made this statement on Sunday in a press release issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, and made available to journalists in Makurdi.
Earlier on Sunday, the Chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, Richard Tombowua, announced that the ruling All Progressives Congress had won all 23 chairmanship and 276 councillorship seats in the election.
Reacting to the announcement, Alia expressed his gratitude to the people of Benue for their peaceful conduct, active participation, and overwhelming support for APC candidates.
The governor commended the peaceful nature of the election, calling it “a reflection of the maturity of the Benue people to engage in a democratic process with respect and dignity, upholding peace and unity, which are critical to the state’s progress.”
He added, “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your active participation in the recent local government elections across our 23 local governments. Your commitment to exercising your franchise in a peaceful and civil manner is commendable and reflects the maturity of our democracy.
“The successful conduct of these elections, free from violence, is a testament to our collective resolve to uphold the values of peace and unity that are fundamental to our progress as a state. I am proud to see our citizens trooping out to make their voices heard, demonstrating that we can engage in the democratic process with respect and dignity.”
He stressed that the support given to APC candidates shows that the people of Benue recognise the direction his government is heading and have chosen to align with his vision to elevate the state to greater heights.
The governor assured the people of his administration’s continued commitment to fulfilling the social contract with the citizens, promising to build a prosperous Benue where every individual will have the opportunity to thrive.
He congratulated the winners of the election and urged those who lost to join hands with the victors and his administration in order to achieve the greatness the state deserves.
