While the trend was clearly towards Karim Benzema leaving, the former Lyonnais should ultimately stay in Saudi Arabia this winter.

Exiled in Saudi Arabia since this summer, Karim Benzema is nonetheless still talked about as much as ever. The adventure in the Gulf is not going as planned for the Frenchman, at the heart of numerous controversies for several weeks. The point of no return seemed to have been reached in recent days when the former Madrilenian did not show up for the resumption of training with Al-Ittihad.

But according to those around him, this absence is only due to Cyclone Belal, which hit the Indian Ocean and prevented him from leaving Mauritius where he had taken a few days of family vacation. However, the native of Lyon was expected in Jeddah on Friday 7 while the airports were still operating. Those close to him nevertheless strive to disseminate that there is no Benzema problem at Al-Ittihad and that contrary to what is said in the Saudi or Spanish press, the native of Lyon has no desire to leave.

While calm has returned to the Indian Ocean, Karim Benzema should quickly return to Saudi Arabia despite his reservations about the level of the League as well as the lack of support he deplores within his club. “He does not see football on an individual level and this big gap with what he knew at Real Madrid weighs on him,” confided a relative in the columns of L’Equipe, another adding: “Karim has never been late for training once in his twenty-year career, so it’s not insignificant either. It’s true that in certain attitudes, or in his eyes, I have the impression of unease, as if he was no longer hungry. He is a lover of the game, he has always had a lot of fun on the field and it seems that this is no longer the case.
