Benzema, the scheme?

The incomprehension is growing around the situation of Karim Benzema at Al-Ittihad. Some have their theory.

When the Saudi club Al-Ittihad offered him a contract worth 200 million euros, Karim Benzema did not think long. Last summer, the 2022 Ballon d’Or therefore chose to leave Real Madrid to head to the Gulf. Welcomed as a star in his new club, the Frenchman has however seen his popularity drop over the months. Vilified by some of his supporters, Karim Benzema took advantage of the truce in the Saudi championship to go and recharge his batteries. But since then, he has not reappeared in training. The fault – according to his entourage – was the cyclone “Belal” which was raging near Mauritius where the former OL man was. The situation therefore seems tense between the different parties and for some, there would be a very specific explanation.

Invited to speak this Monday on the subject, Bertrand Latour expressed his perplexity at this story. “ We can like, or not, the man Karim Benzema. I appreciate it. There is a common thread throughout his career, which is that he has always been impeccable when it comes to his footballing obligations. (…) So I don’t really understand why suddenly… If he didn’t want to go there, he shouldn’t have signed in Saudi Arabia. If he doesn’t like it… I don’t understand what’s going on around him right now. » On the set of the channel The TeamPierre Bouby then replied to him.

Kicked out?

I have more the impression that it is a bit of the club which is very disappointed and which above all wants to find reasons to be able to make him leave. » For the former midfielder who worked in particular at US Orléans, it would therefore be the management of Al-Ittihad which would push in the direction of an early end of the contract. “ I agree that Karim Benzema has always been professional in the clubs he has attended. I don’t see why all of a sudden his state of mind would change in relation to his job. » And the consultant concluded: “ It seemed a bit contrived to try to throw him out. »
