In difficulty at his club, Karim Benzema could leave Al-Ittihad to join another Saudi Pro League team.

Things are moving for Karim Benzema! A few days before the resumption of the Saudi championship, which observed a winter break of just over a month, the future of the French striker is still being talked about.

In January, many rumors circulated concerning the departure desires given to Benzema, who would be unhappy with the level of play of his Al-Ittihad team, currently seventh in the ranking. While desires to return to Europe were mentioned, then quickly denied by the player’s entourage, there is now talk of a transfer to another Saudi club.

Heading to Riyadh?

According to L’Equipe, discussions are underway to transfer Benzema to another Saudi Pro League team, in this case one of the clubs based in Riyadh. Barring any huge surprises, it should be one of the two championship leaders, Neymar’s Al-Hilal, who is injured for many months, or Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mané’s Al-Nassr.

This would be a way for Saudi leaders to meet certain expectations from Benzema, on a sporting level, while avoiding the affront of seeing the 2022 Ballon d’Or leave the country after six months. Al-Ittihad has yet to agree, but it is one of the clubs controlled by the PIF, the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, which he will find difficult to oppose. Which gives credence to a possible departure of Benzema in the coming days.
