Manchester City are reportedly considering signing Lucas Paqueta in the upcoming transfer window.
City were close to signing the West Ham star last summer but the deal collapsed due to an investigation into suspicious betting. The Eastlands side have signed Matheus Nunes from Wolves, who is yet to find his feet at the Etihad Stadium.
However, City’s interest in Paqueta has not diminished, with a bid in the works, according to the Telegraph. The media indicates that if Bernardo Silva leaves this summer, the 26-year-old would be City’s main target to replace him. Silva has already been linked with a move to FC Barcelona, while Paris Saint-Germain and clubs in the Saudi Pro League are also eyeing him.
Paqueta betting investigation
The FA is investigating betting activity regarding stakes on the midfielder who received a yellow card in several Premier League matches. These bets were placed in Brazil and allegedly came from an address near Paqueta’s hometown, near Rio. Paqueta has denied any wrongdoing and there is no indication he placed any bets on yellow cards himself.
City are reluctant to sign the player while these accusations hang over him, with the Premier League champions frustrated by the slow pace of the process.
