Organized each year by France Football, the election of the best French player of the year has dedicated
Kylian Mbappé for 2024. The captain of the Blues was voted for by the panel of voters, bringing together former winners.
However, this coronation of Kylian Mbappé was not necessarily unanimous. Several former winners did not place the name of the captain of the France team in their top three. This is particularly the case of Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kanté, but also Yoann Gourcuff.
Gourcuff’s strong choice
Former comet of French football, Gourcuff elected Antoine Griezmann as the best French player of this 2024 vintage. Behind the Atlético de Madrid star, the Breton placed two other French internationals, the Blues goalkeeper Mike Maignan and the young Parisian Warren Zaire-Emery.
No trace of Kylian Mbappé in Yoann Gourcuff’s vote. A great football fan, the son of Christian Gourcuff won this individual distinction in 2009.
