It is a special day for Barcelona youngster Pau Cubarsi as he has signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay until the summer of 2027.

The 17-year-old’s previous deal stood to expire at the end of 2026 and had a paltry release clause worth €10 million, leaving Barcelona exposed to overtures from other clubs.

As such, the Blaugrana have acted swiftly to secure his future for three more years until 2027, with a mammoth €500 million release clause.

Cubarsi overjoyed with renewal

Speaking to the club media after signing his new contract, Cubarsi expressed his pleasure and joy at renewing, by saying:

“I’m very happy because it’s been a dream since I was a child. That a Culé can renew for FC Barcelona is the best thing that could happen to me in a long time.

“I just wanted to play football and have fun and as the years went by it became clearer and clearer and that’s why I’m very happy for the job,” the centre-back added.

The teenage defender also shared his happiness at seeing La Masia talents getting a regular run with the Barça first-team setup, saying:

“I’m also very happy for the opportunities that we’re getting for teammates like Marc (Guiu) and Hèctor (Fort) and we’re making the most of them, trying to give everything on the pitch to earn more minutes.”

On being asked what challenges he had set for himself in the immediate future, Cubarsi replied:

“I want to keep being myself, keep working at every training session and keep improving.”
