EXCLUSIVE: Betty Gabriel (Get Out), Thomas Barbusca (The Mick), Annie Gonzalez (Flamin’ Hot), and Caylee Cowan (Sunrise in Heaven) are among the final additions to Legion M‘s thriller, Fade to Black, marking the feature directorial debut of Andrew Sandler.
Character details are under wraps, with production underway in Los Angeles. As previously announced, Karan Soni, Max Carver, Katerina Tanenbaum, John Carroll Lynch, Joseph Lee and Zosia Mamet will lead the ensemble. Other newcomers rounding it out include Johnno Wilson (I Love That for You), Veronika Dash (Isabel’s Garden), and Scott Evans (Barbie).
Written by Brandon Cohen, Fade to Black follows Amit (Soni) as he navigates the horrors of trying to break into the twisted business of Hollywood. After an accidental death spurs a sinister epiphany, the screenwriter starts committing the murders of his script’s fictional serial killer in a desperate attempt to generate the IP necessary to get his movie made. The film promises a darkly comedic exploration of ambition, madness, and the brutal reality of the entertainment industry.
Paul Scanlan and David Baxter are producing through the Legion M banner alongside Brent Craft, under Craftsmen Media Co., and Andrew Carlberg (Skin, Mutt). Randall Einhorn (Abbott Elementary, The Office), Danny Hamouie, Jeff Annison and Chris Boshuizen are serving as executive producers. Jamie Castro handled casting.
Stated producer Craft, “We’re beyond thrilled with how the cast of Fade to Black has come together. The stellar talents of Betty Gabriel, Thomas Barbusca and Annie Gonzalez offer a dynamic addition to our ensemble.”
Legion M’s Fade to Black castings come ahead of the theatrical release of their true-crime thriller The Man in the White Van, which Relativity unveils on December 13. Coming up for release in February via Briarcliff is the company’s SXSW Audience Award winner, My Dead Friend Zoe.
Gabriel is repped by Gersh, Untitled Entertainment, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman; Barbusuca by Gersh, AFA Prime Talent Media, and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis; Gonzalez by Innovative Artists and Neon Kite; and Cowan by Buchwald and Bloch Law.
