Big Bill says he told Triple H before he went to IMPACT Wrestling and said that he was not ready to back to WWE at the time.
Big Bill, formerly known as Big Cass in WWE, has been open about his struggles with addiction, which derailed his WWE run. He has landed in AEW, as he joined the company after he had a prominent run in TNA/IMPACT Wrestling.
Speaking on Talk Is Jericho, Big Bill discussed returning to wrestling after he got sober.
“I just applied the principles of what I learned in sobriety and recovery to wrestling. Do what you’re told, put your head down, work hard, don’t complain. There’s things you can’t help, like the airport and stuff, that sh*t gets annoying after a while, but when you’re at work, put your head down, do what you’re told, and things will work out. So far, it’s worked out.
“Just do what you’re told, move forward, and make each day better than the last. Each day has to be a win, and I tell people, just stack wins. I worked the indies for a bit, doing that, got a chance with IMPACT because of Gallows and Scott D’Amore, God bless that guy for giving me that chance. I think I showed people, ‘Oh, this is what he could have been if he was sober.’ I had really good run at IMPACT, I really loved that place.”
Big Bill On Potential WWE Return
Big Bill was then asked whether he had contacted WWE about potentially going back there. He noted that he texted Triple H before he went to IMPACT to express his appreciation.
“About going back? I talked briefly to Finn when IMPACT offered me to go there,” Big Bill said. “I was like, WWE has done so much for me in terms of rehab and they’ve paid a lot of money. I don’t want to insult them. He said, ‘Just talk to Hunter. He’ll understand.’ So then before I went to IMPACT, I just texted Hunter, wanted to let him know. Super appreciative.
“I was just like, ‘I just want to let you know I’m super appreciative. I’m not ready to come back to WWE, I want to go do this, but seriously, appreciate it. Down the road, we’ll see.’ He was super cool about it. That’s exactly what he said. He said, ‘Do what you gotta do. Down the road, whatever.’ So that’s the only time I reached out to them at that point.”
Big Bill is now featured as part of The Learning Tree with Chris Jericho and Bryan Keith in AEW.
