Big Brother Reindeer Games Season 2 will not be held this year, and the reality competition’s producers are explaining why.
In a new interview, Big Brother producers Rich Meehan and Allison Grodner revealed why the Christmas-themed competition will not return in 2024.
“Because we started so late this season and CBS’ fall schedule starts so late this season, everything just pushes back,” Meehan told EW about the CBS schedule being the main reason the special didn’t get made. “So if there’s not airtime, there’s not much you can do for that.”
Big Brother Reindeer Games saw the return of Big Brother alums Cody Calafiore, Frankie Grande, Britney Haynes, Danielle Reyes, Nicole Franzel, Taylor Hale, Josh Martinez, Xavier Prather, and Cameron Hardin. Viewers of the CBS competition were hopeful that a second season would premiere this fall, especially after Julie Chen Moonves announced something was happening inside the house during the Big Brother Season 26 finale. This led some fans to believe that Jankie had something to do with the new season’s theme.
“I think people really expected when Julie said, ‘Oh wait, there’s something in the house,’ that it would be that,” Grodner said. “There were some amazingly creative people online pitching that Jankie finds the true meeting of Christmas and things like that, which we loved.”
Although Big Brother Reindeer Games will not air in 2024, producers are hopeful that a second season will air in the future. Grodner says, “It holds a special place for both Rich and me. We loved doing the show. We thought it worked out really, really well. It’s a great way to bring back alumni in a unique manner. While it’s not happening this year, it could resurface.”
Meehan continued, “Hopefully, we’re in a new year and everything looks like it’s going to be smooth sailing and everything’s worked out, so hopefully, maybe next year. That’s the goal.”
