Big E has been on hiatus from in-ring action due to a severe neck injury. While recovering, he has recently given an update on his progress and ongoing recovery as fans continue to hope for an in-ring return.
Big E has been sidelined since the March 11, 2022 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, where he sustained broken neck. During his absence from the ring, Big E has remained active with numerous appearances on various shows.
While speaking in a recent interview with Chris Vannini, Big E gave an update on his neck injury, which occurred two years ago when he fractured his C1 and C6 vertebrae. Although he currently feels great and experiences no pain or weakness, the C1 vertebra is healing with fibrous tissue instead of turning into new bone, which is required for medical clearance.
To aid his recovery, Big E traveled to Cancun for stem cell treatment in hopes of speeding up the healing process. While he feels good overall, he will need to wait until his neck fully heals before being cleared to return to the ring.
“Now we’re at two years and running since I broke my neck. I broke my C1 in two places, my C6 as well. I feel great. I have no issues with pain, no issues with discomfort, weakness, any of those things. My strength is great. The only issue is my C1 is healing fibrously, which is great for normal day-to-day life, but it’s not turning into new bone and ossifying yet. They’re not going to clear me until that happens. It’s obviously a very important bone. Right now, that is the waiting game. I did go to Cancun about a month ago for stem cells. We’ll see if that changes anything. Right now, I feel great, I’m just not in a position to be cleared quite yet.”
Regardless, it is to be noted that Big E recently shared that he may never wrestle again after his neck injury, so we’ll have to see how Big E progresses in the coming months.
