Cameras have started rolling on 500 Miles, the latest feature from Morgan Matthews starring Bill Nighy.
Actors Clare Dunne (Herself, Kin), Michael Socha (Showtrial, This is England), and Dexter Sol Ansell (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) have also joined the film’s cast.
Directed by Matthews (X+Y, Williams) from a screenplay penned by Malcolm Campbell, 500 Miles is described as a “life-affirming road movie” about runaway Finn (Roman Griffin Davis) and his livewire younger brother Charlie (Dexter Sol Ansell). The pair are on a journey over land and sea to find their estranged Grandfather (Bill Nighy) on Ireland’s West Coast.
Zygi Kamasa’s True Brit Entertainment has landed UK & Irish distribution rights on the pic from Beta Cinema.
“500 Miles is an original, charming, and dramatic film with a huge emotional heart that will resonate strongly with cinema audiences across the UK and Ireland,” Kamasa said of the acquisition. “I’m excited to work with the cast and filmmakers, many of whom I’ve worked with before, to bring this heartfelt British story to the big screen.”
The film is being produced in association with Head Gear Films and Metrol Technology, LipSync, Sampsonic Media, Coimisiún na Meán, and RTÉ. Former Head of BBC Film David Thompson (Billy Elliot, Notes on a Scandal) is producing with Alex Gordon and Keren Misgav Ristvedt for Origin Pictures (Hope Gap) and Martina Niland (Once, Sing Street) from Dublin-based Port Pictures alongside Minnow Films.
