It was a promotion duel witnessed by the spectators at the Millerntor-Stadion between Sankt Pauli and Holstein Kiel. Two teams who return to the elite of German football in the same season, for the 12th day of the Bundesliga. Between a Sankt Pauli barrage and a Kiel first relegated with three points behind its evening opponent, the victory was already important in the race to maintain, regardless of the opponent. Finally, the logic of last season was respected this Friday evening in Hamburg. Greek full-back Saliakas broke the deadlock before the first half-hour with a precise, low shot from outside the penalty area (1-0, 25th).

The Storks thought they would reset the counters to zero before the break, but the former Bavarian Arp was defeated by Nikola Vasilj on his line (45th). In the second half, the locals made the break through Guinean Morgan Guilavogui, on loan from RC Lens, who scored his very first goal in the league this season (2-0, 56th). A decisive passer on the opener, Johannes Eggestein then turned into a scorer five minutes from regulation time to confirm the superiority of his team (3-0, 85th). The reduction of Harres’ score in added time of the second act changed nothing at the end of the match (3-1, 90+1). Sankt Pauli temporarily leaves the red zone with this third success of the season. Kiel, stuck in penultimate place in the standings, conceded its ninth defeat in four months of the championship.
