EXCLUSIVE: After launching The Purge franchise, Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes are teaming on a new thriller Drop and have set Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon to helm and Meghann Fahy is set to star. The film’s logline is being kept under wraps at this time but is said to be a fast-paced thriller.
Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach penned the script with Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller (who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes) producing. Sam Lerner is an executive producer. The film is a Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse production for Universal.
The partnership between the two production companies has delivered huge results from its Purge franchise that includes five films with the sixth on the way as well as a TV series.
The film marks a reunion for Landon and Blumhouse who worked together on the horror thriller Freaky starring Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton. His other credits include the horrror hit Happy Death Day as well as the thriller Disturbia.
Fahy got her big break in the second installment of the 11-time Emmy winning HBO series The White Lotus. Fahy earned rave reviews for the role as well as a 2023 Emmy nomination for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series. She can be seen next starring opposite Nicole Kidman and Liev Schriber in Netflix’s upcoming mystery-thriller The Perfect Couple. The series is an adaptation of Elin Hilderbrand’s novel by the same name. She was also seen in the critically acclaimed series The Bold Type.
