Last month, the All Mighty Bobby Lashley appeared on The Lame Guys podcast. During the interview, he pitched an idea of how he would have liked to start a feud with The Ring General Gunther. But unfortunately, it received a lot of backlash from fans.
Earlier this week, the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion returned to the Lame Guys podcast to address the backlash. Bobby Lashley mentioned that he thought the story idea was cool, but people were upset because of the inclusion of ‘racism’ there. The All Mighty pointed out the fact that there are different groups in professional wrestling based on nationality and race such as the Latino World Order in WWE and The Hurt Syndicate in AEW.
“I don’t know man… So, when we were talking last time, I thought it was cool. But, I guess I took a little heat because some people were taking some of the things I said as, ‘Oh, he’s trying to do a racial thing.’ Or, ‘He’s trying to do that…’ In the wrestling business, first off, if you look at some of the groups that are formed right now, they are formed in a very interesting way. You know, Latino World Order over here… And then that happens, but it’s not so much a negative thing either way. I think it’s just a thing of how they put it together, how groups kind of form.
“And I think that certain groups, it would be kind of interesting to see the dynamic of teams working together and in our society right now, a lot of these groups butt heads anyway. So, why are they butting heads? It could be for whatever reason. But I think that if you brought that to light, on TV, I think some of them could be fun.
Bobby Lashley: I am not feeling racist towards any particular group
“By all means, I am not feeling racist towards any particular group. And I don’t know why people ran with it. But, that’s one thing. It’s like, in the wrestling business, what’s unfortunate is that we do have these ‘dirt sheets.’ Some are ran by companies, some are ran by guys in a company. And it’s just ridiculous and they just really just try to look for things that they can just pull out to get some clickbait. And then they spew some drama online.
“Look, for those people, I gotta tell them just don’t. Stay away from me. Because you’re not going to find something. I’m going to come back and explain. But if in any case, I’m just not that guy. I’m not that guy that’s spreading it. There’s some guys that want that out and they sit there and have little beef and battles with each other. But for me, I’m not. I’m very confident in what I am, what I can do, and what I have going forward. So, I’m just not that guy. So, they could just stay off of mine and leave my interviews unheard. That’s what it is. But, I’m not any guy to spear any hate.
“I didn’t like how it ran. Some people came to me and they were like, ‘Oh man! That would have been cool.’ And then other people were like, ‘Oh man! He’s…’ I saw one post and some guy was like, ‘Bobby really has CTE right now. He’s losing his mind.’ I’m like, ‘Okay, is that where it’s gone?’”
Bobby Lashley only wants to have a different approach to building a storyline
Lashley reflected on the storylines he had back in WWE. He mentioned that he received a lot of death threats when he married Lana on national television. But even then, he only wanted to do a unique story in an attempt to step away from the usual formats.
“It would. It would. If you think about it, across the board, I was married on TV. So, if you look at things of what I’m capable of, what I’m willing to do, I’m willing to throw myself out there in certain cases. When I did that with Lana, you should have seen the death threats I was getting on DMs… I don’t know who it was. But who cares man? At the end of the day, I’m just a person who really does not care. If we have fun with it and the crowd get engaged with it, just run with it, and hen have fun with it. And I think that’s how some of the best storylines have come about. It’s about changing the regular thought process of someone. ‘Oh this guy sees this guy. He’s mad. Let’s fight.’ Come on. We have other avenues where we can go,” Bobby Lashley said.
Bobby Lashley respects everyone in the professional wrestling business
“I’m one of those guys that love everybody. I’m very… Very appreciative and respectful to everybody I work with and everybody that’s in the business. I’m not one of the guys to leave one organization and hope the other organization goes down. I have friends still at WWE so, I still watch, and I still kind of cheer for those guys to make sure everything’s going great over there. Talk to some of the guys. Same with over at TNA. I still talk with some of the guys over there. So, in the wrestling business across the board, I’m one of those guys that I want everybody to do well.”
What are your thoughts on Lashley’s pitch about feuding with Gunther?
