Booker T doesn’t share the fan’s views on his WrestleMania match with Triple H.

The WWE Hall of Famer faced The Game at WrestleMania XIX, battling for the World Heavyweight Championship. The pair were involved in a racism angle, with Triple H the heel to the babyface Booker. In the end, Triple H won the match and retain his title.

The fans were furious, although Booker T saw the positives in the result.

Speaking on Unlikely with Adrian Hernandez, Booker T spoke about his match with Triple H at WrestleMania XIX.

“Honestly, I, you know, and I’m being quite honest with you, I mean 100%, I really didn’t lose any sleep over that angle at all. I know a lot of my fans did. That’s what I was disappointed, yes, we did. No, that’s what I was disappointed with more than anything. I was disappointed because I know my fans were let down because they really, really wanted me to win that night. And if I would have won that night, it would have been great. It would have been a great moment, it really would have. We look back in history and say, ‘Man, Booker T. He did it’.”

“But I just never have looked at the wrestling business like most people do. I’ve always looked at this business as a movie, a script, and I’m getting the script. And the script was, you know, for me to lose that night. I thought it was a huge win for myself as well as African-Americans for me to make it to the main event of WrestleMania against Triple H. That was a huge win, you know, just being in that position.”

Booker T Saw Himself As The Winner Against Triple H At WrestleMania

Booker T went on to say that he felt like a winner just for being in that WrestleMania match against Triple H. However, he noted that he didn’t lose any sleep over the result of the match, due to his huge payday from the event.

“I thought I won, I really did. But the only regret I have is the regret that my fans had from that night more than anything. I always felt like when I won the world title in WWE, you know, it was the right time, you know, when I beat Rey Mysterio. I’m something, you know, no king has ever done, you know, winning the World Championship, you know. But it would have been a great moment, but just not, it’s just not something that I’ve really ever lost any sleep about, just because the check was too big. No, I’m serious, the check was way too big for me to complain for that night.”

Booker T then confirmed that WrestleMania XIX was the biggest payday he received in wrestling.

Later in the interview, Booker said he never thought there was any malintent of the company trying to make him look bad on purpose. He understands the racial components of the storyline, but he viewed it as an emotional angle, and motivation for anyone looking to prove someone wrong. Booker said Jim Ross was the one to encourage him to share more of his past on-air, noting that not too many people knew about him being in prison when he was younger.
