Booker T thinks a three-hour wrestling show is good for the talent.
WWE recently returned to broadcasting a three-hour Raw as they moved to Netflix. They also announced Smackdown would be moving to three hours as their output of wrestling reaches record numbers.
While this may be too much content for some fans, Booker T thinks it will be a great thing for the WWE Superstars. On the latest edition of his Hall Of Fame podcast, Booker T explained why the wrestlers like having a three-hour wrestling show. (H/T to Fightful for the transcription).
The former World Heavyweight Champion claimed that the wrestlers prefer a longer show. This is because it gives them more opportunity to get TV time.
“I think the three-hour show works from a talent perspective. “Booker T said. “Because we as the boys, we want to get on the show. So, that extra hour, I mean if you guys don’t like it, that’s one thing but for me, I’m thinking about the check [laughs].”
“I’m thinking about getting paid, I’m thinking about air time is worth it, way to go. From the boy’s perspective, I totally see it. If it could be written out properly, I don’t see a problem with having a three-hour show. I think the fans will tune in, they’ve been doing it for quite some time, I think fans finally got used to the three-hour show. So yeah, I’m all in, I like it.”
RAW is currently formatted as a three-hour show on Netflix. SmackDown also airs for three hours on USA Network, but Triple H recently confirmed SmackDown will revert to a two-hour show in the future.
Booker T Compares Zilla Fatu Match To Tyson vs. Paul
Booker T has compared his upcoming match with Zilla Fatu with the much-publicized fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson.
Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T compared his upcoming match against Zilla Fatu to the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul boxing match. (H/T to Fightful for the transcription).
Jake Paul won that match by unanimous decision, having a 31-year advantage over the former World Heavyweight Champion. Meanwhile, Booker T is 36 years older than Zilla Fatu, which could spell disaster for the WWE Hall of Famer.
“Look here, man. I’ve been getting calls from all over the place. Africa, Australia, Japan, Korea. People saying they want to come in for this match, they want to come see Zilla [Fatu] get dropped on his head just one last time, they want to see Booker T make that walk one more time. So I say get your tickets, and get them now.” Said Booker T.
“If things go as planned, we may have to get a bigger building. I know the people want to see it. This is like Mike Tyson and Jake Paul. That’s what this is why. It’s somewhat like Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, but I’m not on any blood thinners or anything like that. I’m not on any heart medication or anything like that.”
“I’ll tell you right now, long hours in the gym. Seems like I’m almost turning back the clock a little bit. So am I gonna in shape? Am I gonna be ready? Am I gonna be fully prepared for the situation? Oh yes, man. I’m gonna be prepared in more ways than one,” Booker T said.
