Jadon Sancho has not been a success at Manchester United and the winger hit a new all-time low early this season when he fell out with Erik ten Hag in a public feud.
Of course, there was only going to be one winner in that battle. Sancho was out of the side from September up until the January transfer window when he was sent back to Borussia Dortmund on loan.
It was at Dortmund where he made a name for himself and convinced United to make him one of their most important players of all time.
His return to the German giants has been far from the heights he reached between 2017 and 2021, however. Sancho has struggled to nail a place down as an undisputed starter and is one of the first players to come off the pitch when a change needs to be made.
Speaking recently, Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has spoken out about the possibility of Sancho remaining at the club beyond the six-month loan agreement with United.
“In the end, it will take money, a lot of money. Definitely more than we have at the moment,” Kehl told German outlet Sport1, via France24.
“We got over 80 million euros for Jadon. Manchester United will, of course, have an interest in either taking him back in the summer or selling him again in a deal that makes sense for them. Whether that also makes sense for us will be the next topic.”
In years gone, it wouldn’t be farfetched to say that United would take the first possible deal this summer but Sir Jim Ratcliffe is recruiting the best negotiators in the game and maybe, just maybe, the club can finally start benefitting from sales.
Obviously, United will make a loss on Sancho as his value has depreciated with every year since he joined the club but a sale could still aid United’s transfer plans.
Ten Hag’s future is also uncertain and there is no guaranteeing that he will be in charge when United jet off for pre-season but as things stand, that looks to be the case.
