There’s really nothing linear about his career. Former great hope of Manchester City, Jadon Sancho had to extort himself across the Rhine to reveal himself to the eyes of the world. Brilliant in the colors of Borussia Dortmund between 2017 and 2021, the London native was then considered one of the greatest hopes in football. Finally, despite several requests from other major clubs of the Old Continent, the versatile striker chose to return home, to England, to don the tunic of Manchester United who had lined up 85 million euros to enlist him in summer 2021. But ultimately, his adventure with the Red Devils became hell. Unconvincing during his first months, he was not spared from physical problems.

Definitely sidelined this season and for several months by the contrasting Erik Ten Hag, the English international (23 caps, 3 goals) saw his career on standby and was never able to relaunch it among the residents of Old Trafford. Therefore, a departure was necessary this winter. Less courted than in the past, Sancho was nevertheless able to count on the return of his ex: Borussia Dortmund. Interested for several months, the Ruhr club has accelerated in recent weeks and needed such reinforcement to move up the standings in the Bundesliga while major deadlines await them in the Champions League. Their efforts then paid off at the start of the week with the return on loan of their former prodigy. This Saturday, the new number 10 of the BVB officially made his comeback in the Marsupiaux jersey on the Darmstadt lawn in the Bundesliga.

Jadon Sancho got everyone back on track

Substitute at the start of the match, the 23-year-old came on in the 55th minute in place of Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. An entry which gave much more offensive bond to the flock of Edin Terzic who only led by a goal before the entry of Sancho. The player on loan from United has already been decisive with an assist for his friend Marco Reus (77th). Questioned after his team’s ultimately large victory (3-0), the latter was full of praise for the former Manchester United’s first steps towards his return to Germany: “He’s a different player. He is good as a scorer in every game because he has the positioning to turn a disadvantage into an advantage. I really enjoy playing with him – like back then. I’m very, very happy that he found his way back to us. He can be very, very important for us because he breaks down situations very well and makes an incredible final pass. He finds the perfect moment.»

Already convincing on the field, Jadon Sancho was also praised on social networks for this extremely captivating return. Set to be a starter for the rest of the season, the Englishman also received several compliments from the German staff. After the match, Sebastian Kehl, BVB sporting director, expressed his admiration for the return of the darling of Signal Iduna Park: “When Jadon enters the field, you immediately notice that there is joy in the game, that there is also a certain individual class, which helps us to create dangerous situations again and again. That’s all “What we hope from him. I would have liked him to score a goal today, but Marco’s assist is also a great story. It was really good today.”

And while some might still be skeptical about the future of the child prodigy’s return, Edin Terzic reassured everyone after the meeting. He does not want to rush his player and intends to support him to find the thread of his very promising start to his career: “I’m very happy that Jadon put in a great performance for his comeback. We have to remember that we always talk about the talent and that natural fitness that Jadon has in him. That’s one thing, the other is that he’s a very young player. He still experienced a lot. There he encountered a wall for the first time. There are some in every career. We know what Jadon is capable of. We have had an extremely fruitful time together. Now it’s about creating a new period of success. Of course, he has to put a lot of effort into this. But he is ready to do it. He showed it to us from the very first days.» One thing is certain, there is really reason to be enthusiastic about the more than convincing return of Jadon Sancho with Borussia Dortmund.
