The Bulk Energy Storage and Transportation Limited (BOST) over the weekend donated over 11,000 exercise books and supplementary reading materials to six basic schools at Akosombo in the Asuogyaman district of the Eastern Region.
Some of the beneficiary schools included Atimpoku RC Basic School and Atimpoku L/A Junior High School, (JHS).
The gesture form part of BOST’s nationwide educational support programme, targets schools and operational communities, with the goal of distributing 100,000 learning materials nationwide.
Speaking at the event, the BOST’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager, Yaw Antwi Dadzie, stated, “We are ensuring that schools in communities surrounding our depots have the necessary learning materials to boost education. So far, we have covered areas like Kumasi, Savelugu, Buipe, Debre, and Bolga, distributing over 80,000 materials.”
He said the programme is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which seeks to promote inclusive and quality education for all.
Mr Dadzie further stated that a needs assessment conducted two years ago identified a significant shortage of learning materials in some schools, prompting BOST to take action to address the gap.
In addition to the educational support, he emphasised BOST’s broader dedication to community development. The company has provided scholarships valued at GH¢1.5 million to 50 students at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), covering tuition, laptops, stipends, and other forms of assistance.
Moreover, he noted that BOST prioritises environmental sustainability, actively engaging in tree-planting initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint.
Mr Dadzie reiterated BOST’s efforts to underline its dedication to fostering educational development in communities impacted by its operations, with a focus on long-term impact and sustainability.
Receiving the items, the head teachers of the beneficiary schools expressed appreciation for the intervention, noting that the lack of basic learning materials, such as exercise books has been a significant challenge in schools within the area.
Head Teacher of Atimpoku L/A JHS, Christian Tenge, explained that “Teaching and learning go hand in hand with assessment, but the absence of exercise books often hampers our ability to evaluate student progress. These donations have come at the right time to address this critical issue.”
While commending BOST for the timely support, he highlighted that the need for learning materials remains substantial.
“Each pupil requires about 15 exercise books to meet their academic needs. We are grateful for this intervention and appeal for further assistance to ensure continuous academic improvement,” he added.
