Sir Dave Brailsford, Jim Ratcliffe’s right-hand man, has remarkably revealed to fans that Ruben Amorim’s move to Manchester United is now a done deal.
The INEOS Director of Sport was in attendance at Old Trafford this evening to watch Ruud van Nistelrooy’s first – and potentially last – game as interim manager, and he certainly made a statement with the side’s triumphant win.
United booked their spot in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a 5-2 win over Leicester City; scoring five goals against Premier League opposition is something Erik ten Hag failed to do in the entirety of his two-and-a-half-year tenure, while Van Nistelrooy did so only 59 minutes into his reign.
Similarly, the relentless attacking display saw the Reds notch 23 shots in total (nine on target), the most that they’ve recorded against a top-flight outfit this season.

That’s because speculation has been rife since Monday afternoon that United hoped to complete the acquisition of Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim. The club intend to fork out his £8.3 million release clause in order to terminate his contract two years prematurely, making for a swifter transition to England when he’s free to do so.
He may have to complete a notice period, though. Reports tonight suggested that Amorim would remain at Sporting until they played Braga on November 10, after which club action is put on pause for another international break. As such, his first game in charge of United is likely to be against Premier League newbies Ipswich Town on the 24th.
When making his way out of Old Trafford this evening, Brailsford was stopped by supporters to take some quick snaps, and, unsurprisingly, they took their chance to ask whether an agreement was in place with their potential new manager.
Brailsford responded: “Yeah, it’s done. Done, done, done.”
