This is a new controversy for Vinicius in Spain. Often targeted in an odious manner by racist supporters, the Brazilian winger was logically offended by this hostile behavior of the Spanish public towards him. Frequently going into overkill by sometimes provoking opposing supporters, the number 7 of the Merengues also addresses some barbs in press conferences. Recently, Vini again provoked the ire of the Iberian public in an interview given to CNN in which he explained that the 2030 World Cup should eventually be withdrawn from Spain, which he considers a racist country.

Words that shocked and forced the supporters of the former Flamengo player to come out with their shields. This is particularly the case of Orlando Leite, Brazilian ambassador to Spain. In an interview on the airwaves of the SER chainLeite went on a long tirade to explain that the Real Madrid striker had not insulted Spain: “As I said, there is racism all over the world and Spain is considered for what it is: an ideal country to live in – and Madrid too -, as Vinicius says. I don’t think he should correct it, because it was an assumption.” It remains to be seen whether this defence will be of any use to Vinicius.
