Robinho sentenced to prison: Brazilian guilty of rape

The retired attacker, according to a recent report from talkSPORT, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for rape.

Robinho is deemed to have been involved in the gang raping of a 22-year-old Albanian woman in Italy in 2013, and now a court in Brazil has finally sentenced the ex-pro.

However, although the court has sentenced the 40-year-old, the former Manchester City star will remain a free individual pending the outcome of a possible appeal.

South American failed to live up to expectations

Robinho hit sporting headlines when Manchester City announced his high-profile transfer from Real Madrid in 2008 when the Premier League giants agreed a record-breaking £32.5 million transfer.

Robinho became the Premier League’s most expensive signing when he joined Manchester City in 2008.

The South American, although tipped to become one of the league’s most exciting attackers, failed to live up to expectations.

He was loaned to Santos just 18 months after joining and then sold to AC Milan the following summer in a cut-price deal.

During his two-year stint at the Etihad, Robinho, who retired in 2020, scored 16 goals and registered 12 assists in 53 games in all competitions.

The forward represented Brazil on the international stage on 100 occasions, scoring 28 senior goals including two in the group stages of the 2006 and 2019 World Cup.

He lifted 13 major trophies throughout his career including the 2010-11 Serie A title while with AC Milan.
