On Tuesday morning, youths from the Finima community in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State shut down two oil service companies, Saipem Construction Nigeria Limited and Daewoo Engineering and Construction Limited.
The angry youths cited neglect and marginalization in the ongoing Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Train Seven Project as the reasons for their action.
Despite heavy rain, the youths barricaded the companies’ gates, blocking the entry and exit of staff. They are demanding the implementation of the Local Content Development Act 2017 and the inclusion of host communities in the project. These companies are the main contractors for the Train Seven Project.
As at the time of filing this report, the youths were still at the venue enforcing the shutdown. The companies, the state government as well as the security agencies have not reacted to the development.
