BREAKING: Cultists Gun Down Man Amid Rivers Crisis, Body Still At The Scene

Armed men suspected to be cultists have killed a young man named Endwell Awunze in Ula-Pata-Ahoada, Ahoada Local Government Area of Rivers State,

The incident has added to the growing tension in the state due to the ongoing local government leadership crisis.

Reports indicate that Awunze, who was known for exposing cultism and other violent crimes in the Okporowo community in Ahoada East LGA, was targeted and murdered by cultists. According to a source from the area, the victim had just left a protest site opposite Ahoada East Council where demonstrators were opposing the extension of the Local Government Chairman’s tenure.

Around 7 PM, Awunze boarded a motorcycle, but as he traveled along Ula-Pata road, three gunmen who had been waiting in ambush shot him. Awunze died immediately, while the motorcycle driver sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

The source noted that as of 7 AM on Wednesday, Awunze’s body was still at the crime scene. The deceased was an oil pipeline surveillance worker before his death.
