Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, has proposed a new minimum wage of N105,000 per month, which was presented to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday.
President Tinubu is currently reviewing this proposal, with an official announcement expected soon.
Earlier, the NLC and TUC had declared labour strike over the government’s refusal to meet their demand for a higher minimum wage of N494,000.
However, after a day of striking, both parties returned to negotiations and reached an agreement. To fulfill their side of the deal, President Tinubu mandated Edun on Tuesday to provide a new minimum wage template by Wednesday.
Official announcement of the final minimum wage amount is being awaited.
