A fire broke out early Friday morning at a seven-story building on Sanni Adewale Street in the Lagos Island Local Government Area.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident in a statement on X.com.
According to Adeseye, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received a distress call at 5:17 a.m., and firefighters from Ebute Elefun, Sari, and Lekki 1 stations quickly responded, arriving at the scene by 5:33 a.m.
Adeseye assured the public that “the situation is now under control,” and no casualties have been reported. Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was likely caused by an electrical surge.
In her statement, Adeseye detailed the events, saying, “The fire affected several shops within a 7-storey building. Thanks to the swift actions of the Lagos State Firefighters, ventilation efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety of all in the area.”
