The Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualification series has taken a major twist as unlikely leaders, Lesotho now lead the pack.
The team which the Super Eagles found difficult to beat and had to labour to a 1-1 draw last November on Friday beat Zimbabwe 2-0 away in Johannesburg.
The two goals came from Rethabile Rasethuntsa in the 21st minute and Jane Thabantso 10 minutes later.
With the result, Nigeria have now further dropped to the fifth position in a six-team group. The Super Eagles are therefore condemned to beat South Africa tonight to rise from their bottom position.
They will have to get at least a two-goal margin win to catapult over five-pointer Lesotho as a goal margin will only put them in the second position.
