Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have staged a protest at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Benin City against the ongoing collation of results from the recent governorship election in Edo State.

The protests erupted as the All Progressives Congress (APC), the major opposition party, appears to be leading in the election based on preliminary results released by INEC.

According to an X post by Channels TV, PDP supporters expressed their dissatisfaction with the election process, claiming that the results are being manipulated in favour of the APC.

As of now, INEC has gone on recess after announcing results from 16 out of the 18 local government areas in the state.

The APC has secured victories in 10 local governments, while the PDP has claimed victory in six. The final two local government results are expected to be announced by 5 pm.

As reported by Naija News, the APC leads with 244,549 votes, followed by the PDP with 195,954 votes, and the Labour Party (LP) trailing with 13,348 votes.

The situation remains tense as PDP supporters demand transparency in the collation process and an assurance that the will of the people is reflected in the final results.
