Popular Nollywood actor, Junior Pope has finally been confirmed dead after initial twists and conflicting reports.
Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), expressed sorrow over Junior Pope’s passing, lamenting, “It’s so so sad that our joy was shortlived.”
In a Facebook post on Thursday morning, Rollas disclosed, “Two notable hospitals tried their best to revive him but to no avail. God knows the best. We finally lost him.” He also noted, “Mr Friday’s corpse has been identified but three other corpses are yet to be found.”
Delta State AGN chairman, Emma Onyemeziem, corroborated Rollas’ statement, confirming that Junior Pope’s body had been placed in a morgue.
Junior Pope tragically lost his life after a boat he was on capsized in Anam River, Anambra State. Peter Chinedu, one of the divers who retrieved their bodies, recounted that they were en route to a movie location when the incident occurred.
A witness identified as David revealed that they were returning from a shoot when their boat capsized on Anam River.
Earlier, Junior Pope had shared a video of himself and others on the boat, expressing concerns about the lack of safety measures, captioning it, “See me lamenting… The risk we take to entertain you; crossing River 9ja yesterday with no life jacket… Na wahooooo Who does that??”
