The camp backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Rivers State has won again following the latest decision of the court.
The Federal High Court in Abuja declared the N800 billion 2024 budget signed into law by Rivers State Governor, Simi Fubara, as null and void on Monday.
In December, the Governor had presented the budget to a faction of the state House of Assembly, consisting of four lawmakers. Subsequently, after the lawmakers passed the budget, Fubara signed it into law.
The Rivers Assembly became divided due to a move by 27 lawmakers loyal to Ex-Governor Wike to impeach Fubara.
Presiding judge James Omotosho ruled that everything done by the four lawmakers was null and void. The court also recognized Martins Amaewhule, Wike’s top ally, as the speaker of the state assembly.
