Brenda Song Reunites With Kat Dennings In Tim Allen’s ‘Shifting Gears’ ABC Comedy Series

EXCLUSIVE: It will be a Dollface reunion on the set of Shifting Gears, starring Tim Allen and Kat Dennings.

Brenda Song, who co-starred opposite Dennings on Dollface, will join Dennings in a guest-starring role on the upcoming ABC comedy series. She’ll also reunite with Shifting Gears showrunner and executive producer Michelle Nader, who served as showrunner on Dollface, which aired for two seasons on Hulu.

Shifting Gears stars Allen as Matt, the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter Riley (Dennings) and her kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.

Song will guest star as Caitlyn, a former high school classmate of Riley’s who is now the assistant principal of the school.

The series also stars Seann William Scott as Gabriel, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell as Stitch, Maxwell Simkins as Carter and Barrett Margolis as Georgia. 

Shifting Gears is produced by 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios. Allen executive produces alongside Nader, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, Rick Messina, John Pasquin, who also directed the pilot episode, Jim Patterson, Bob Daily and John Amodeo. Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully are executive producers on the pilot episode. Dennings is a producer. 

Shifting Gears will premiere Wednesday, January 8, at 8 pm on ABC and stream next day on Hulu.

Song can currently be seen starring in Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl, opposite Pamela Anderson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kiernan Shipka, and Dave Bautista. The film is set for limited release on Friday, Dec. 13 ahead of its wide release on Friday, Jan. 10. She’ll also be seen opposite Kate Hudson in Mindy Kaling’s basketball comedy set for premiere in 2025 on Netflix. In addition to Dollface, Song’s other credits include Netflix’s Secret Obsession, The Suite Life franchise and as the titular character in Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior.
