Brest can believe it, Barça is beatable!

In two weeks, Stade Brestois will host FC Barcelona for the most prestigious match in its modern history. Eric Roy’s men will probably not go for it. Already because they are uninhibited in the Champions League and are in first place. Then, because they will probably have seen Barça concede their second defeat of the season on the pitch of Real Sociedad (1-0) on Sunday, during the 13th day of La Liga. Without Lamine Yamal in particular, the Blaugranas seemed takeable. And like the only other time the Spanish nugget didn’t start a game this season, they lost it.

After the opener was refused to Robert Lewandowski for an offside position difficult to determine in the first period (13th), Hansi Flick’s men had difficulty deploying their game and were caught by the counterattacks and the speed of the Basques. Sheraldo Becker, thrown deep behind a somewhat sluggish defense, opened his foot to deceive Pena and score the only goal of the game (1-0, 33rd).

A first in 10 years!

Where Real Sociedad was strong was that Barça did not put a single shot on target in this part, which had not happened to them for more than 10 years and a match in Malaga. With a game based on high-intensity races, Imanol Alguacil’s players rose to the challenge, notably thanks to a quadruple change during the hour of play which allowed the batteries to be recharged.

Real Sociedad returns to 8th place in La Liga and leaves Barça at the mercy of a return to 3 points from Real Madrid, in the event of victory in their late match. If they play again without Lamine Yamal, which is likely, the matches against Celta Vigo and Stade Brestois will be anything but fun for the Catalans.
