The new Gabby Petito documentary is exactly what Brian Laundrie’s family expected… But not what they approve of.
As we’ve been following, Netflix released a bombshell docuseries last week called American Murder: Gabby Petito, which jumped back into the murder case. The biggest reveal? The late 22-year-old told a friend she had plans to end her relationship with Brian… just before he killed her.

Well, the Laundries have seen it… And they have some major gripes! On Wednesday, Laundrie family attorney Steven Bertolino provided a statement to People on behalf of Brian’s parents Chris and Roberta, who declared the production was one-sided:
“The documentary was what we expected. One perspective depicted as the ‘truth’ as seen through their lens. Similar to Republicans and Democrats fighting it out lately. Hard to see through the lens of the other with all the noise and distrust. The documentary contained many inaccuracies, incorrect juxtapositions of timelines, and misstatements and omissions of fact — perhaps deliberate to capture their ‘truth,’ perhaps due to simple error.”
“One perspective” — that of the victim and the people who loved her and were upset she was murdered? What… other perspective was there in this case? The statement continued:
“We all know Brian took Gabby’s life and Brian then took his own as well. Let the parents of both Gabby and Brian mourn and remember them in peace.”
They’re literally doing the “let’s not bicker and argue over who killed who”? Eff that! Brian was the killer here, and his cowardly actions afterward made certain the family could never get the closure they needed. And they’re going to begrudge them participating in a documentary investigation? Come on!
The whole accusation this is one-sided is especially rich since the Laundries were approached about appearing in the docuseries! In an interview with Today, director Julia Willoughby Nason even confirmed:
“[The Laundries] didn’t want to participate, and we respect that.”
They could have given their perspective! But as the credits note, they refused. They stayed quiet. You know, what they’re best at.
