Bruno Guimaraes has reacted after the latest Brazil squad was announced.

Two world cup group qualifiers in September, home to Ecuador and away in Paraguay, potentially against Miguel Almiron.

Dorival Junior, who took over as Brazil coach earlier this year, has left out eight players who were part of Brazil’s squad in this summer’s Copa America tournament, when they were knocked out in the quarterfinals by Uruguay.

Bruno Guimaraes getting emotional (see below), as the Ecuador match will be played in Curitiba, which he describes as his ‘second home’, I can only assume Newcastle Upon Tyne is his first/top one…

Curitiba is where Athletico Paranaense are based, where Bruno Guimaraes first made his name.

Bruno Guimaraes reacts via his own personal social media after latest call up for Brazil – 23 August 2024:

“Another call-up and with great happiness to be back in Curitiba where I have a history and have adopted it as my second home!

“May there be two wonderful games for our team.”

As you can see below, Bruno Guimaraes included but no place for Joelinton.

I think he would be a massive asset for Brazil but for selfish reasons, very happy that Joelinton can take it easy in this next international fortnight.

Brazil squad announced – 23 August 2024:

Goalkeepers: Alisson (Liverpool), Bento (Al-Nassr), Ederson (Manchester City)

Defenders: Danilo (Juventus), Yan Couto (Borussia Dortmund), Guilherme Arana (Atletico Mineiro), Wendell (Porto), Beraldo, Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain), Éder Militão (Real Madrid), Gabriel Magalhães (Arsenal)

Midfielders: André (Fluminense), Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle United), Gerson (Flamengo), João Gomes (Wolverhampton), Lucas Paquetá (West Ham)

Strikers; Rodrygo (Real Madrid), Endrick (Real Madrid), Vinicius Júnior (Real Madrid), Estêvão (Palmeiras), Luiz Henrique (Botafogo), Pedro (Flamengo), Savinho (Manchester City)

No panic as yet but Brazil could do with a couple of wins.

Only two wins in six world cup qualifying group matches leaving them sixth of ten (see below).

Six automatically qualify for the 2026 world cup finals and the seventh placed country goes into a play-off.
