Bruno Guimaraes named Newcastle United captain

Bruno Guimaraes has been named Newcastle United captain on Saturday.

The Brazil international will lead the team for the very first time in a competitive match.

Newcastle United opening their Premier League campaign against Southampton.

Eddie Howe naming his first starting eleven of the season (see below), with Bruno Guimaraes handed the armband.

He got very emotional (see below) when starting a Newcastle game as captain for the vcry first time this summer in the friendly against Yokohama F Marinos.

Fair to say then that today, Bruno Guimaraes will be the proudest man inside St James’ Park, as he takes on the responsibility of captain in the Premier League in this match.

Bruno Guimaraes message to the club and Newcastle United fans via his personal social media, after he started his very first ever game as NUFC captain, in the friendly against Yokohama:
