Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness reignited their rivalry tonight in a classic match that saw Danielson get back to his winning ways.
Danielson — who hadn’t wrestled since AEW All Out — wasn’t even sure if he could compete at AEW Grand Slam after the attack he suffered at the hands of Jon Moxley. However, he was able to perform, and he and McGuinness competed in their first match against one another since 2011.
For McGuinness, this was just his second match in over 10 years. Previously, the superstar shocked the world at AEW All In by coming out of retirement to win the Casino Gauntlet Match, but his luck would run out tonight.
The match came to an end after Danielson was able to roll through an attempt by McGuinness to grab his arm. Danielson then locked in the LeBell Lock, and in a surprising moment, McGuinness thanked Danielson before tapping out.
After the match, Christian Cage came out to the ring and teased that he would cash in his contract for a world title match. However, Kip Sabian snuck up behind him and snatched away his pen, forcing Cage to chase Sabian into the back, where he ran into PAC and Claudio Castagnoli.
