AEW star Bryan Danielson speaks highly of Cody Rhodes.
Bryan Danielson has main-evented WWE WrestleMania, as fans rallied around him on the road to WrestleMania 30. His story has been compared to that of Rhodes, who is riding plenty of support from the fans heading into his world title match at WrestleMania 40.
Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Bryan Danielson commented on Cody Rhodes’ success.
“I am really proud of Cody,” Danielson said. “What he’s doing is really special.”
Barrasso noted that Danielson said he wanted to see Rhodes dethrone Roman Reigns, and he was mad when Cody lost at WrestleMania 39.
“I texted Cody last year, just saying I was so proud of him and congratulations,” Danielson said. “Then the finish happened, and I was so mad.”
Bryan Danielson On Tribalism
Bryan Danielson also commented on tribalism in wrestling, as he noted that there may be animosity among fans or the bosses, but the wrestlers want the best for each other.
“This is the beauty of professional wrestling,” Danielson said. “There may be animosity and tribalism amongst fans or people who run companies. But the wrestlers? We want what’s best for each other. From a wrestler’s perspective, I want my friends to do well. And they want me to do well, too.
“I want what’s best for Cody. It’s no different with him. Cody texted me after my hour-long match against Max [MJF] and told me how much he loved it. There are plenty of friends from WWE who’ve reached out and complimented different things I’ve done in AEW. I’ve done the same for friends in WWE. I want my friends to succeed. We like the fact there are two competing companies. That’s good for wrestlers, and the wrestlers want each other to succeed.”
