Senator Tony Nwoye, representing Anambra North in the National Assembly, clarified that he did not receive an allocation of N500 million for intervention projects in his constituency, contrary to claims made during a Senate session.
Nwoye, a member of the Labour Party (LP), emphasized that he was only allocated N250 million for constituency projects, refuting assertions of a higher allocation.
During a tumultuous Senate session on Tuesday, Senator Jarigbe Jarigbe from Cross River North alleged that certain “senior senators” were granted N500 million each for constituency projects in the 2024 budget. He insinuated that this disparity among senators raised questions of fairness.
Jarigbe’s comments prompted an online user, X, to inquire whether Senator Nwoye had also received the purported N500 million allocation. In response, Nwoye clarified that his allocation was N250 million for intervention projects in his constituency and that these funds had not yet been disbursed.
Nwoye affirmed his stance through a social media post, stating, “I didn’t receive any 500 Million naira as a Constituency project for the good people of Anambra North Senatorial District. What was allocated to Me for the Zonal Intervention Project for 2024 is N250 Million naira. I am a first-time Senator. And this sum has not been released.”
