Buhari visits Maiduguri over devastating flood Credit: Shehu Garba
Former President Muhammadu Buhari arrived in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Tuesday to commiserate with the government and residents following the recent flooding in the state.
Buhari’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement on X.com on Tuesday.
According to Shehu, the devastating floods occurred while Buhari was away on vacation.
Upon his arrival, Buhari was reportedly received by Governor Babagana Zulum, Senator Ali Ndume, and other top government officials.
The statement read, “Former President Muhammadu Buhari has just landed in Maiduguri, Borno State, welcomed warmly by Governor Babagana Zulum, Senator Ali Ndume, and other political and government leaders in the state.
“The former president was away on vacation when the state suffered the recent devastating floods, and he is here to personally commiserate with the Shehu of Borno, the government, and the people of the state following the tragic incident.”
PUNCH reported in September that around one million people were affected by the devastating flood in Maiduguri, with at least 414,000 people displaced and 30 killed.
Donations to the Borno State government from various sources, including the Federal Government, are also said to be over N17bn.
