In the midst of a fight to remain, Bochum hosted Hoffenheim and had to win to move away from the red zone before the end of the Bundesliga, which will end in four days. Quickly, the locals did what was necessary by opening the score thanks to Stoger in the first period (1-0, 22nd), before making the break with a goal from Passlack (2-0, 45th + 2).

Stoger even scored twice to put his team far in front (3-0, 64th), but Bochum then relaxed. At the end of the game, Hoffenheim managed to come back by two goals thanks to a double from Kramaric (3-2, 73rd and 84th), but Bochum held on and therefore obtained a very important sixth victory in the Bundesliga. With three days to go, the promoted team remains 14th, two points ahead of Mainz, who are in the play-off, but who have one game less.
