The summer transfer window for Barcelona is under a cloud of doubt. Amidst the club’s precarious financial situation, it is unknown as whether, and to what extent, the club can sign players this June.
The defensive midfield position is said to be the Blaugranas’ top priority, but it is clear that they are eyeing a winger if the finances permit. SPORT provides an update on the same.
Target Olmo
As revealed by the outlet, Barcelona sporting director Deco held a meeting with Dani Olmo’s entourage after the team’s defeat to PSG and conveyed the club’s interest in the player.
The Catalans see Olmo as a luxury signing who will up the quality immediately, albeit is not as a necessity.
The player also sees it as the right time to return to his boyhood club, especially considering the sporting situation Barcelona face.
Concurrently, however, Deco also conveyed to Olmo’s father that the signing was complicated despite mutual interest, especially from a financial front.
It will depend on the club’s ability to facilitate sales and return to the 1:1 rule for transfers.
Release clause set
Olmo has had his sight set on a move Barcelona for a long time now, and introduced a release clause into his latest contract with RB Leipzig for the same reason.
As it stands, the figure Barcelona must reach to sign Olmo stands at €60 million. While relatively affordable for a player of his quality, the number is difficult for Barcelona to reach in their current situation.
The 25-year-old’s current contract with Leipzig runs until the summer of 2027, and his release clause is thus the minimum Barcelona have to pay considering the same. All eyes now, thus, are focused on sales.
