Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong has said a transfer to Liverpool ‘would be great’, amid speculation over a move to Manchester United.

The 23-year-old has been a standout performer in Xabi Alonso’s unbeaten Leverkusen side this season, scoring seven goals and registering six assists from right-back.

Previous reports have suggested that the Netherlands international and former Man City academy star, who still has family living in Manchester, is on United’s radar (via The Mirror).

That’s why it is a shame to see him signal his intent to join Liverpool if they register an interest in his signature at the end of the season.

Speaking to Ziggo Sport, as quoted by Soccer News, the young defender made his feelings known towards Liverpool.

“Liverpool? Great club, with history. That would be great. Who knows what the future will bring.”

A number of other top European clubs have been linked with Frimpong’s signature but now his reputation is growing in a team gunning for the Bundesliga title.

For instance, the full-back has back-to-back goals in his last two outings after scoring the winner in a 2-1 win on Saturday over Heidenheim. He also scored in Leverkusen’s 3-0 win over Bayern Munich.

Frimpong is under contract at Leverkusen until 2028, but a move has been touted at the end of the season.

There is also a chance that Alonso could be offered the job at Liverpool when Jurgen Klopp’s nine-year reign comes to an end.
